For the warm-up we cover the basics such as holding and striking a drum, basic coordination drills.
After that we will learn and play the rhythms listed on the class handout
(see 4/4 Rhythms)

Class size will be limited so advanced registration is recommended
- Universal hand drum techniques
- Exercises for timing and speed
- Poly-Rhythms and Improvisation
- Community Drum Circle Confidence
This means that the class focuses on those aspects of drumming that are universal to most any drum or drumming tradition that utilizes hand drumming.
Students are not bound to any specific tradition and learn how to create their own rhythms as well.
Although the class is primarily taught on djembe drums (provided), the goal of the class is to teach people to play any hand drum with confidence and flare in any situation (drum circle, on stage, alone, etc.).
Want to get involved but don’t have a drum?
Not a problem! We can provide you with an authentic African Djembe.
