About Michael Clark
A professional musician, accomplished djembe instructor, performer, author and recording artist, is a firm believer in the empowerment of the drum to transform lives and bring people together.
Following his own drum journey for more than 15 years, he now assists others in following their unique path through teaching and playing the djembe.
Currently based in Olympia Washington, Michael has founded African-style drum and dance troupes in Idaho, toured England for three years with RhythmWorks4U a company he created, and is the founder of the OutLaw Drummer Band.
He is currently teaching drum classes weekly in Olympia and conducting facilitated drum circles throughout the Pacific Northwest with his company Drumatic Innovation.
I have recently returned from a 3 year adventure touring in England where I had the privilege to provide rhythm circles for over 70,000 students in over 350 primary and secondary schools as well as colleges, festivals, local adult classes and guide groups. I am also co-founder of RhythmWorks4u, an amazing rhythm circle provider in the UK. I am the founder of the African style drum and dance troupe EarthBeat and co-founder of Phoenix Rising, another African style drum and dance troupe.

What makes hand drumming so inviting is that it is quite easy for inexperienced players to pick up without the frustration of learning technical skills. When you enter a drum circle, your only task is to contribute what you feel comfortable doing and the circle finds a way to embrace it in the melody. This in itself provides stress relief and positive energy for your psyche. A drum circle creates a sense of acceptance and community.
I am currently the creator and owner of Drumatic Innovation and active founding member of the OutLaw Drummer Band in Olympia.
I have been teaching private and group hand drumming since ‘96.
I am currently conducting hand drum classes at Yenney Music in Olympia and a monthly Community Drum Circle at Traditions. I am providing stress relief and team building workshops at local businesses and governmental agencies such as Microsoft, Horizon Airlines, the department of health and many other locations throughout the Pacific Northwest. I teach an introduction to hand drumming at the prestigious Seattle World Rhythm Festival. I am also providing workshops for a number of local schools between Bremerton and Vancouver. I provide regular workshops at the Hands on Children’s Museum, Evergreen College, AmeriCorps community youth services, Squaxin Island child development center, Wolf Haven, and local senior centers in Olympia, Shelton and Lacey.
Check out the amazing list of venues and clients that I have had the honor to visit.
I have extensive training and experience in drum circle facilitation in numerous environments including Seattle’s Bumbershoot Festival, Coventry’s Godiva Music Festival, Seattle’s World Rhythm Festival, Community Youth Programs, Leadership Programs, Event Organizing, and Emotional Intelligence Development Programs. My training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) with Jamie Smart assists me in effective verbal and non-verbal communication, making me a very proficient facilitator!
We provide the very best in recreational drumming, facilitated drum circles, drum lessons and music education.
