About Michael Clark
Michael Clark, a professional drum circle facilitator, musician, accomplished djembe instructor, performer, author and recording artist, is a firm believer in the power of the drum to transform lives and bring people together.
Following his own drum journey for more than 15 years, he now assists others in following their own path through teaching and playing the djembe, hand drums and world percussion.
Based in Sandpoint Idaho, Michael has founded African-style drum and dance troupes in Idaho; toured England for three years with RhythmWorks4U a company he created, providing rhythm circles for over 70,000 students in over 350 primary and secondary schools as well as colleges, festivals, local adult classes and guide groups; and he is the co-founder of the OutLaw Drummer Band. At present, he has worked with more than 400 schools and well over 100,000 students!
With his company Drumatic Innovation, he conducts facilitated drum circles throughout the Inland Northwest for schools, provides team-building and stress relief workshops for local businesses and corporations such as Microsoft, Washington State Department of Health, Horizon Airlines, Hands On Children’s Museum, Evergreen College, AmeriCorps community youth services, Squaxin Island Child Development Center, Wolf Haven, and local senior centers in Olympia, Shelton and Lacey.
Trained by Arthur Hull in the art and science of professional drum circle facilitation, he continues to hone his skills with on-going advanced teacher-training classes. He has attended Arthur Hull’s Village Music Circles Hawaii Facilitators Playshop and Training three times, and earned Remo’s HealthRHYTHMS Facilitator Certificate through the teachings of Christine Stevens. Combined with an education in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) with Jamie Smart, along his own insatiable quest for knowledge which results in constant research about the drumming world, Michael’s learning is constantly being passed on to his students and drum circle attendees.
He gratefully acknowledges his many teachers, the most influential being the aforementioned Arthur Hull and Jamie Smart, as well as djembe masters Babatunde Olatunji and Mamady Keita; drum circle facilitators and musicians Cameron Tummel, Christine Stevens, Don Davidson, Michael Moonbear and performers/instructors Drum Brothers Michael and Mathew Marsolek out of Missoula, Montana.
Michael has facilitated at many events, including Seattle’s Bumbershoot Festival, Coventry’s (U.K.) Godiva Music Festival, Seattle’s World Rhythm Festival, and numerous Community Youth Programs, Leadership Programs, Event Organizing and Emotional Intelligence Development Programs. He proudly offers a list of some of the amazing venues and clients which he has been honored to visit thus far.
